One of the very best features of this Canon is the viewfinder. I can’t believe so many other digital cameras lack this extremely useful tool. A hobby I enjoy requires me to be able to take several hundred outdoor pictures in a single day without access to a battery charger. With this Canon, I can turn off the LCD screen and save battery power by simply using the viewfinder instead. Over the past ten days, I have taken more than 1000 pictures (all outdoors, no flash, without using the LCD screen) on a single battery charge. Hard to believe, but the battery still isn’t depleted.

When buying a DSLR, the lenses matter much more than the camera body- and will probably cost you much more as well. These lenses will lock you into a system — either the Canon, Nikon, or Sony system likely. Consider what cameras your family and friends are using and who you could potentially be sharing lenses with. Lenses generally cost $[...] to $[...], so it’s a big deal. Photography is a budgeting game.

A year in the making, OPPO has finally released the BDP-83 Blu-Ray Player – their first entry into the market. They have produced some of the finest upscaling standard DVD players, including the exceptional DV-983H. Thankfully, the BDP-83 uses the same Anchor Bay chip as the DV-983H, so your standard def DVDs will look as good as possible. On the Blu-Ray side of things, the audio and video quality are exceptional; on par with the best Blu-Ray players available. The BDP-83 also plays back DVD-Audio and SACD discs, making it a truly universal player. Anyone familiar with first-generation Blu-Ray players is all too familiar with their slow disc-loading times. Recent players have made great strides in this area, but the BDP-83’s loading time is the fastest I have seen.

I was delighted to have finally received my Powershot S90, and without further adieu, let me say that this is one heck of a camera. It’s not perfect — you can take truly terrible pictures with it just like you can take terrible pictures with a D700 — but when used properly, the camera turns out remarkable shots that make us find it hard to accept the images are coming from a camera that fits in your pants pocket.

Had this for about 6 weeks now and have only got great things to say about. Picture quality is first rate with the 120hz refresh really making images vivid. With my 1080 upscaling DVD player you feel like you can reach through the screen to the people and objects. Just got the BD-C5500 blu-rayer player on special from Amazon to match and it is a great combo. This TV blows away the 2007 Panasonic 42′ Professional Series TH-42PHD8UK in our living room.

I purchased the Harmony One recently to replace a “universal remote” which simply put all device controls into a single remote. With the old one, you still had to select each device separately, and then control it. Other than cutting down the living room clutter, it did nothing to simplify operations. On the other hand, the Harmony One is everything I’d dreamed of in a remote control. It groups your devices by Activity (function), so you use a single button to watch an HD-DVD, and it goes ahead and turns on your TV, your HD player, and your stereo receiver. How much simpler can it get? You also don’t have to “shine” your component remotes into it to get it to remember their codes. Instead, you plug the Harmony One into a USB port on your computer, call up the Logitech website, select your home theater components from a list, and all the necessary codes are downloaded into your Harmony One for you. Piece of cake! And if you really want to control a single device separately, it provides a Device pushbutton which then gives you access to the single component you wish to work with. It’s a fantastic remote control and worth every penny, especially when you no longer have to go through lengthy explanations to your wife, kids and babysitters on how to operate the home theater equipment. Buy it, you’ll love it!

The Garmin nuvi 295W is a nuvifone but without the phone so the same accessories work with it. It has GPS, maps and navigation, lots of information about urban points of interest from ATMs to parking garages, plus wi-fi for web-browsing and email as well as music and widgets. I use it primarily while walking around in Manhattan and it certainly seems to be intended to be used as a handheld device rather than for driving.

Something nobody seems to have mentioned; when a store or restaurant is located by this unit, it gives the address AND the phone number of the intended location, and I can call ahead and make sure they are open and have what I want. This has saved so much time.

The first time I saw the iPad was when it was announced with much fanfare and I was instantly smitten. I’ve never been an Apple person and have stayed away from their products like crazy, but this thing really stuck in my mind. Once it was released I went to the Apple store and played with it, like so many other people, and I walked away still liking it. I figured I would play with it and walk away thinking that it wasn’t worth the money or didn’t work the way I wanted it to. I was wrong. I found myself looking up reviews just about everyday seeing what other people thought about it and finally happened to be in a store when they had some in stock and I took the plunge. Was I nervous? Yes. Was I afraid that it would just be a toy and that was it? Yes. Was I scared about the price? Yes. However, I typically feel that way before any large electronics purchase.
